The Employment Tribunal – Changes

In the latter part of 2017, The Supreme Court ruled that the existing tribunal fees were unlawful. These fees, introduced in 2013, had reduced enormously the number of employees taking their employers to the tribunal. Realistically the expectation is that this will now reverse.

It is therefore vital that employers protect themselves through seeking proper advice.

Contracts of Employment

It is also important to realise that in small companies, the same individual might hold various positions – director, shareholder but also employee.

What to do about an individual employee?

It is important to deal with employees within the scope of the law. Various factors can ‘muddy the water’ as to an employer’s options in dealing with an employee. Long term illness, maternity leave, the absence of an employment contract are all issues we have dealt with.
